The swing. From the day I found out Emilia was coming to days after she arrived, people informed me the swing was the best thing for a baby. "She'll sleep in it," they said. "She'll love this if she doesn't love anything else." Never once did someone inform me that the child may not love it or even like it at all. Never once did they say "perhaps she may scream bloody murder and act as if she's getting pinched or an arm chopped off." Thus, I saw to it that Emilia had a swing weeks before she arrived. In my mind's eye, she would love it - sleep peacefully during naptime, coo, smile, look off in wonder and amazement. It was exciting to dream how wonderfully this contraption would change my life. And yet, Emilia did not see it the same way. We brought her home, placed her in the swing, and this is what happened...

Seconds after this, she was a screaming mess!

Consequently, we put away the swing to bring it out another day when she may be more comfortable in it. Periodically we'd place her in it to see if she enjoyed it even a little. Then, as week 10 approached, the swing didn't seem as scary. Yeah! Victory!
