As I sit here deciding what to say to commemorate our first Christmas as a family, I'm reminded how blessed we are to have such wonderful family and friends that have kept us afloat this year with Philip's job loss. We were able to spend Christmas with many of them (minus Paul and Rachel and their families - which doesn't make it the same), sharing in Emilia's first Christmas. We embraced the true meaning of Christmas with love and family.
Christmas Eve
Our Christmas began on Christmas Eve with lunch at Philip's cousins' house. We saw many of Philip's relatives that he hadn't seen in many, many years. We had good food and conversation. There were so many small cousins running around; everyone had something to do. Emilia even had a playmate that is two weeks older than her. It was fun watching them look at one another.
Aunt Sandra with her two granddaughters, Ellie and Annabelle, and her great-great niece, Emilia.
After lunch, we met my parents and then ventured to Mimi and Granddaddy's for a Christmas Eve meal and the reading of "The Night Before Christmas." It was especially special this year because Emilia would get to enjoy the story even more than the rest of us.

After the long day's festivities, we were all exhausted. Emilia went to bed early, "anxious" for Santa. She fell asleep around 8:00 p.m. and enjoyed her slumber until 5:00 am! Something we can definitely get used to!
Christmas Morning!!
Just like the Kay Jewelers' commercial: Philip wakes up at 2:00 a.m. as I'm feeding the baby and says "It's our first Christmas as a family!" while giving me my diamond necklace. Ha! Okay, so not the case, but we did have an excellent day. My parents traveled from the land of Charlotte to be with us and exchange gifts, then eat a wonderful meal with Philip's family.
Christmas morning she wanted to know what all the fuss was about. It didn't grab her the same way it did us!
Mamaw and Emilia
Still trying to figure out why everyone is so excited THIS morning...
So not interested in opening her very first Christmas present!
Or her second...
Emilia's first Christmas morning - not the shining star she normally is, but managed to get the Christmas cheer throughout the day. Perhaps sleep is all she needed?
While we're eating Christmas dinner, she sleeps.I realize this rendition of our Christmas is only going to get longer. In order to spare you from all the details in one sitting, I'll split up the information over two posts. Enjoy!
What a very fun time~ The best part was spending my first Christmas with a grandchild and it being Emilia's first, too, made it even more special! We enjoyed our time with family - even for such a brief time! We love you! Mamaw
